St Austin’s Choir

The choir provides the music liturgy for the 11.00a.m. Mass on Sunday morning and at all the major feasts and celebrations throughout the year.  In addition the choir is available to sing at weddings and funerals on request. The choir is a mixed, mainly adult choir.  Singing a wide range of musical styles the choir’s repertoire covers music from the last thousand years. Liturgical music includes plainchant Masses, polyphonic Masses and modern English settings.

Along with the liturgical music the choir performs recitals, undertakes tours and occasionally sing at St Anne’s Cathedral in Leeds. Choir sang there for the ordination to the diaconate of Timothy Whitwell and will provide  the music for his full ordination in July 2016.  In recent years the choir has sung the Vigil Mass at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome and performed a recital at Notre Dame in Paris. In 2019 the choir toured Austria -singing in Salzburg and Innsbruck

The choir provides the perfect complement for weddings. Music can be provided before and during the service. Organists, Soloists and instrumentalists can also be provided. Fees do apply. Please do contact the choir if you wish to discuss your ceremony. We can assist in planning the musical side of your ceremony.

Organ Scholarship

The choir and parish are looking to run an organ (and possibly choral) scholarship scheme in the near future. We will be looking for a student in years 12/13 of college or an undergraduate. The scheme will have a bursary and an element of training in organ and in music liturgy. If you are interested please contact the choir

For more information about the choir please contact Patrick Ganley, the Director of Music.
